“We wanted the best and most modern technology – at a fair price”

Top-level broiler production in Hungary: Big Dutchman supplies poultry house equipment

  • Máté Koncz, commercial director of Szentistváni Mezőgazdasági Zrt., is responsible for the large-scale project in Szentistván
Farm overview with portrait of Máté Koncz

What did the development process of the most modern farm for broiler production in Hungary look like? Máté Koncz, commercial director of the agricultural business Szentistváni Mezőgazdasági Zrt., provides more details in an informative video. In the video, Koncz offers interesting insights into the project planning process, names his favourite piece of equipment and explains why, after intensive research, the company decided to use Big Dutchman equipment for the ten new broiler houses.

Koncz astonishes with excellent German skills, speaking the foreign language in some parts of the interview. The video has German and English subtitles, ensuring that all viewers have access to all information. A link to the video is available at the end of this article.

Szentistváni Mezőgazdasági Zrt., located around 150 kilometres north-east of Budapest in the Szentistván village, worked on the project for more than ten years. Steps taken before construction included planning, obtaining permits, and the demolition of old buildings. The new buildings were completed in January 2024.

Broiler production with state-of-the-art technology

Each building is 105 metres long and 13.5 metres wide and can house around 27,000 birds. The housing equipment was installed and tested in the spring of 2024, and in early summer, the first broilers were moved in.

“We wanted the best and most modern technology – at a fair price,” says Máté Koncz. During negotiations, Big Dutchman’s expertise, flexibility and experience convinced Szentistváni Mezőgazdasági Zrt.

Reliable partners are important for successful livestock housing projects. Hatagro Kft, the long-standing Big Dutchman agency in Hungary, planned and implemented the project in Szentistván.

This large order is not the first compliment Szentistváni Mezőgazdasági Zrt. paid to Big Dutchman: the company used the German poultry supplier’s equipment before, in another project.

Housing equipment

  • Viper Touch  – intuitive climate and production computer for poultry houses. The 10-inch touchscreen can be used to check and control all relevant parameters in the house – temperature, ventilation and heating as well as feed and water consumption and bird weights. The combination of highly efficient sensors, reliable operation and an option for modular expansion turns ViperTouch into the ideal solution for modern broiler production.
  • Viva 330  – feed pan for broilers, providing easy access to the feed, both for chicks and heavier birds. The 360° flooding mechanism distributes the feed optimally; the pan’s clever design reduces feed losses. The pan is easy to install and to clean.
  • Augermatic  – flexible auger conveying system for dry feed. Augermatic distributes feed uniformly and automatically, even over long distances, and can be adjusted for different layouts. The entire system can be winched all the way to the ceiling.
  • RainMaker  – effective system for evaporative cooling in hot and dry regions. The system features high-quality plastic pads and a compact design and is easy to install.
  • Dynamic MultiStep  – energy-efficient ventilation principle. “This principle guarantees that the fans, which consume the largest amount of energy on the farm, use as little power as possible at any time,” explains Koncz, happy with the system. Poultry producers can save up to 50 per cent in combination with EC motors.

Hygiene protocol

Another special feature of the project is the hygiene corridor that connects all ten houses. Employees enter the area at the beginning of their shift, shower, put on work clothes – and do not leave the area again until the end of the shift.  The goal is to prevent infectious diseases such as the avian flu.

View into the future

Koncz is already thinking further ahead. The committed manager is exploring how to integrate the production and use of insect protein into the farm’s feeding strategy.

Big Dutchman is happy to support him – with pragmatic solutions from the product range of subsidiary Better Insect Solutions!
