MEA on the rise: agriculture with great potential for the future
An enormous potential, not just for arable farming, but also for livestock production. The demand for animal protein is growing rapidly, driven by population growth, urbanisation and higher incomes.
For Big Dutchman, this means that MEA is a central market. That’s why poultry equipment supplier recently opened a new logistics hub in South Africa. Colleagues from 15 countries came to Vechta, Germany, for the MEA Sales Meeting, including teams from South Africa, Algeria, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Kenya, Turkey, etc.
In contrast to ten years ago, Big Dutchman customers in the region focus on state-of-the-art solutions. Digital, interconnected, sustainable! Jan Schomaker, future Head of Region MEA: “Around 70 % to 80 % of our orders are new projects: buildings, equipment, photovoltaics, batteries and manure treatment. The market today wants turnkey solutions of the highest level.”
An example: Big Dutchman is currently building a modern farm near Kigoma at Lake Tanganyika. Fully equipped with a digital control system, solar panels and control cabinets made in Calveslage.
PV is a real game-changer in this area: lots of sunlight, individual locations, self-sufficient energy supply.
