Big Dutchman innovation SowVision uses AI for sow body condition scoring
How healthy is a pregnant sow? Is she too thin or too fat? Sow managers can now measure sows accurately with the Big Dutchman innovation SowVision: AI-powered, continuously, fully automatically. A camera records the body condition and weight while the sows are eating in the CallMatic3pro ESF station. This information paves the way for a uniform and ideally conditioned sow group – and for healthy piglets.
How SowVision works
A 3D camera is installed above CallMatic3pro. When a sow enters the ESF station, the system detects the sow’s ear tag and measures her visually. Based on this data, the system determines the sow’s body condition score (BCS) and weight.
SowVision is fully integrated into the BigFarmNet management and control system, where sow data, weight data and BCS data are consolidated. They are then available for analyses and to control the feeding system.
How SowVision helps
- Objective data: measured values instead of a gut feeling – reproducible, continuous and in real time.
- Early reactions: sows that are too thin or too fat are detected long before their condition becomes an issue.
- Targeted feeding: the feed amount can be adjusted individually per sow, automatically or manually.
- Ideal condition: the sows eat well, do not experience complications during farrowing and have a high milk yield.
