Xaletto, the straw bedding concept for closed houses developed by feed producer Bröring (Dinklage) and equipment supplier Big Dutchman (Vechta) is innovative and fit for practical application: this was confirmed by a decision made by editors of the German magazine publisher dlv Deutscher Landwirtschaftsverlag together with international colleagues. The experts elected Xaletto as the innovation of the year 2019 in the category “pig management systems”. The industry’s sought-after award was recently presented during an awards ceremony at EuroTier 2018, the world’s leading trade fair for modern livestock production.
The winner
Xaletto is an economical, comprehensive system for animal-friendly and environmentally sound pig production on straw. The basis of this method are a special ventilation system, a specifically developed feed type, and a compost activator. Xaletto can be used for piglet rearing and pig finishing; in existing houses as well as in new and renovated barns.
The concept puts an end to unpleasant odours from pig houses because there is no slurry. The manure is a valuable fertiliser or can even be composted to benefit the environment. Xaletto is the result of a long-time practical project. About 6,000 animal places are already being managed very successfully under the Xaletto principle.
