“Trees from Art” is the name of an ambitious Nigerian tree planting and sustainability education program – and Big Dutchman Nigeria was happy to be invited. Other participants of the campaign include Solution 17, a development program of the NGO “Creative Youth Community Development Initiative”, the Lagos State government and the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Nigeria. The participants’ goal: planting trees in secondary schools of the seaside town of Lagos and supporting sustainability, education and art. Trees from Art was recently launched at Nike Art Gallery in Lagos during a festive ceremony.

Each planted tree will be tracked, monitored and managed through a comprehensive digital platform. The system will enable project stakeholders and private sector companies to integrate tree planting into their business.

This was just the first step of the journey, however, since Trees from Art is only the beginning of a large campaign: the plan is to plant ten million trees in all of Nigeria by September 2030, including many economic trees. The term derives from the fact that these trees are the source of, among other things, food, timber, and animal feed.
